For a household ironing cotton and linen weekly, a steam iron pays for itself in time and results. A dry iron still makes sense if you iron rarely, want the simplest possible appliance, or live with hard water and do not want to descale anything. Delhi water is hard — if you buy steam, plan on descaling it.
